Domestic Rabbits are very popular nowadays in the USA and many other countries. Breeders create new breeds and improve the conformation and health to existing breeds, so everybody can choose the pet according to his/her liking. Breeds differ by size, body structure, fur texture, ear shape, and coat length and color. According to the size, Rabbits are divided into the following groups:

Dwarf breeds. These Rabbits vary in size from 1 to 3 lbs. They are not very productive, but are easy to keep in apartments. This group is prone to many health problems and mortality rate among babies is very high.
Small breeds. These animals vary from 2 to 5 pounds in size.
Medium-sized breeds. This group includes animals from 4 to 7 pounds in weight. It is the most numerous groups of Rabbits.
Meat breeds. These Rabbits are between 8 and 12 pounds in weight. They are raised for meat and fur and only sometimes are kept as pets.
Giant breeds. These Rabbits weigh up to 25 pounds. These creatures require stronger cages and much room in the cage. In addition, these animals are used for meat and fur, but most of them are shown.

According to the fur type Rabbits are subdivided into 4 groups: angora (with long and floating coat), satin (with shining coat), rex (with short velvety coat), and multi-colored (with several coat colors).
